Data partitioning involves moving data from a single database server into more than one repository. It is not uncommon for applications to perform fine when they are moved into production and then start to slow as more data is added to the database. In some cases, changes made to the application or the database, such as applying indexes, allow the application to return to acceptable performance. In cases where this is no longer possible, you might need to consider implementing a data-partitioning model. There are two kinds of data partitioning: vertical and horizontal. Vertical partitioning involves splitting a table into multiple tables. Typically, this is done to reduce data redundancy, but if a database has gone through the normalization process, this type of partitioning might not be
